NEW YORK – Fossil Free Indexes (FFI), a provider of financial research and products for carbon-responsible investing, has expanded its relationship with asset management firm Parametric Portfolio Associates to offer strategies based on FFI’s Carbon Underground Coal 100 and Carbon Underground Tar Sands 20 rankings. The rankings allow investors to implement strategies that are screened for firms holding the highest potential CO2 emissions in their reserves of coal and oil sands.
Parametric is now able to offer these Carbon Underground screens as additional options to their already-existing FFI offerings: the flagship Carbon Underground 200TM (CU200) which lists the 200 global public companies holding the highest CO2 emissions in their reserves of oil, gas, and coal, and the Fossil Free Indexes US (FFIUS), FFI’s fossil-free index based on the S&P 500 screened for the CU200.
Parametric’s head of Customized Responsible Investing, Jennifer Sireklove, commented: “Working with FFI has provided us with another great option to meet the needs of investors who want to go fossil free. The new offering recognizes that some investors prefer to discriminate among companies on the CU200.”
FFI CEO Christopher Ito noted: “We are delighted to deepen our relationship with Parametric. Since we first joined forces with them nine months ago, several governments, religious organizations, universities, and private investors around the world have committed to revising their investment strategies in response to increasing concerns about climate change. We are excited to empower investors of all types as they address the risks associated with investing in companies with large fossil fuel reserves.”
Fossil Free Indexes provides benchmarks, research, and investment solutions that support carbon-responsible investing. FFI indexes and rankings are licensed for funds, ETFs, and separate accounts, as the basis for investable products and strategies.
