Christopher Ito is Chief Executive Officer of Fossil Free Indexes. Chris has over 20 years of investment management and consulting experience. Prior to joining Fossil Free Indexes, he was a co-founder of Carmen Ventures, LLC a consulting company providing business development services for early stage companies and entrepreneurs. Chris has worked with financial technology and cleantech start ups on the East Coast helping them with business planning, fund raising strategies and product sales.
Prior to founding Carmen Ventures, Chris was a Senior Managing Director at UBP Asset Management in New York City. Chris spent close to 5 years at UBP and in 2009 was promoted to the Head of Portfolio Management for the firm’s $4 billion fund of hedge funds. During Chris’s tenure at UBP, the firm rose to become the second largest allocator to hedge funds in the world. He was the lead portfolio manager on Firm’s Multi-Strategy product from 2006 to 2009 and a member of the Fund Board of Directors and Firm’s Investment Committee.
Prior to joining UBP, Chris was a principal at Deloitte Consulting in New York where he spent the better part of 15 years. He was the founder and national leader of the firm’s Institutional Investment Advisory Practice delivering advice to retirement plans, endowments and insurance companies. Chris was also an original member of the Capital Markets consulting practice which was formed in the early 1990’s to assist corporations and financial institutions with risk management strategies and operations.
Chris has a Bachelor’s degree in accounting from The Ohio State University and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). He has published several articles on investments, including one that was part of the CFA curriculum in the late 1990’s. He is the current chair of the Board of Directors of the Ohio State University Alumni Association. He and his wife Sarah and two children live in Madison, New Jersey.
